Need advice please

This forum will focus on the interesting topic of titrating oral vitamin C intake to so-called bowel tolerance, the point just prior to the onset of diarrhea

Need advice please

Post Number:#1  Post by jackie » Sun Mar 04, 2018 11:54 am

Hi, I am new to this forum and also the vitamin C therapy, can someone please help by answering couple questions:

- How much vitamin C should I take for maintenance?
- Is it necessary to go through the bowel tolerance method before getting to maintenance level? (I don’t mind doing it but want to confirm, sorry for my ignorance). What’s the proper way. I tried it few weeks ago but not sure I did it right.
- Any other vitamins I should take with vitamin C during the bowel tolerance period.
- I take vitamin D daily, what are other essential vitamins you recommend to be taken daily?
I appreciate any help on this.

at least 5 grams, more if you can tolerate it. Try to always have vit C in your body, 1gram./2 hour
take MG, vit k2, EFAs, coq10, lysine/proline. vitD(least 5K IUs, but you really need a blood test to not get too much or too little---dr levey)
lots of veggies(spinach, broccoli) some fruits)

Thank you so much but can vitamin C be a whole food based pill or it has to be ascorbic acid powder (which is very sour and acidic)?

Thank you once again.

getting the 5+grams of vit C from food only is very hard to do
cause you need to eat a LOT of food and you arent sure how much vit C you are getting
here is a chart that shows lots of veggies/fruits high in vit C, but 100mg means getting you need 10 servings to get 1g and 50 servings to get 5 g

I use a vitamix and can grind 1lb broccili+cranberries+1 whole grapefruit and not get enough vit C to last 4 hours(2 grams )

I'm not understanding what you mean by "sour/acidic"? Are you eating straight vit C powder?
there are two forms of vit C.
1 sodium ascorbate
2 ascorbic acid
Being a mineral ascorbate, it is buffered and, therefore, less acidic than ascorbic acid. Usually, sodium ascorbate is recommended for people who have gastrointestinal problems associated with ascorbic acid

I take pills of Twinlab C-1000, which consumerlabs says is cheap and pure and twinlab tells me it is ascorbic acid, I use pills at work or on the go

when I'm home, I have a 25kg of SA vitamin C from purebulk that I use with water
https://www.bulksupplements.com/sodium-ascorbate.html

Ive never had GI issues from vit C, cept when I take a lot(BT level)

hope this help

edit
I just used consumer labs
to get cheapest/purest SA form in pills, they recommended kirland signature from costco

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, I meant pills made of whole food e.g. vitamin code brand. I got the ascorbic acid and of course I don’t eat it but I dissolve in water, still sour and hard to drink but doable:)
Your information is very helpful, I appreciate it much .

glad to help, I'm still not clear on food being in pills? Link?

I dont know what pills made of whole food are?
I dont like the dissolve/drink any vit C, i dont want it to degrade my teeth, It is well known that vitamin C (ascorbic acid) has a low pH and so can contribute to dental erosion.

So I take pills, either buy them
or
make them:

I bought the purebulk SA powder vitamin C
and I also bought a pill maker using 00 size pills
ie Cap-M-Quik

I mean like this one

https://www.gardenoflife.com/content/pr ... vitamin-c/
And you are right, it’s bad for teeth but I thought that’s how you take it, with water as you said above: “when I'm home, I have a 25kg of SA vitamin C from purebulk that I use with water” .

Anyway, will get some pills to try:)

gotcha, those pills loook healthy
and my bad for teeth comment was aimed more about chewables than dissolved powdered

have you noticed any effects from those pills?

here is a great study about nitrates from fruit/veggies and how more nitrates mean more NItric oxide
https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/90/1/1/4596750

and here is a page about benifits of nitrix oxide
http://www.peaktestosterone.com/Increas ... rally.aspx

and a boook by a dude who won a nobel prize for study on Nitric oxide
NO More Heart Disease: How Nitric Oxide Can Prevent--Even Reverse--Heart
https://www.amazon.com/More-Heart-Disea ... 0312335822

and the pills I take, which were used in the study,,, kinda like the pills you mentioned...garden veggies
https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-Vegg ... B0009ETA80

to get more nitrates, eat
spinach
arugula
rhubarb

eggwhites are high in lysine/proline

Sorry, there is a mistake in my list.
Retinol 5 g is wrong, of course. Cut it out. And replace it:
L-Methylfolate 5000 mcg.
