Vitamin C on sepsis

It seems that another ICU service has come to use intravenous vitamin C in its sepsis protocol: Hydrocortisone, Vitamin C and Thiamine for the Treatment of Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock: A Retrospective Before-After Study (via Dr. Kendrick).

Let's hope Fowler's Phase II trial speeds up.

Just look at those numbers. With IVC, 8.5% of patients died (4/47), without IVC, 40.4% of patients died (19/47). Odds of that being due to chance quoted as less than 1 in 1000.

And I'll bet they weren't using super high doses of C either, or those 4 who died in the IVC treated group might still have lived.
