I posted VCF's Ester C article on another health site, http://www.vitamincfoundation.org/esterc.htm because I thought the doctor on that site is an Ester C Proponent, and here is his reply to it :

I will stand by my statements on this subject. Time will tell! Studies on a few patients (less than 100,000 individuals) cannot possibly stand with the experiences of many millions of personal and clinical experiences.

Ester-C is a variant of calcium ascorbate. Routine supplementation with calcium supplements is unwarranted and potentially lethal in adults according to Dr. Levy, Bill Sardi and many others.

Ester-C provides 110 mg of calcium for every gram of vitamin C.

Ascorbate and vitamin C metabolites

One such supplement (Ester-C®) contains mainly calcium ascorbate, but also contains small amounts of the vitamin C metabolites dehydroascorbate (oxidized ascorbic acid), calcium threonate, and trace levels of xylonate and lyxonate. Although the metabolites are supposed to increase the bioavailability of vitamin C, the only published study in humans found no difference between Ester-C® and commercially available ascorbic acid tablets with respect to the absorption and urinary excretion of vitamin C (43). Ester-C® should not be confused with ascorbyl palmitate, which is also marketed as "vitamin C ester" (see below).

If I had cancer, I would consider taking Ester-C orally, as it does seem to enter cells faster, and there is a patent about this from one of Pauling's associates (Raxit J. Jariwalla). On the other hand, calcium has been shown to help malignant cells (and embryos) divide! So who knows.

Our concern otherwise, is that it is not a "natural" form of vitamin C, so its effect is largely unknown. It may very well be more beneficial than the vitamin C found in nature. Who really knows? As Ralph points out, we do know that there are issues with calcium ascorbate, etc.
