First Post - Statins

Post Number:#1  Post by djnzlab1 » Thu Feb 21, 2008 3:09 pm

HI,
First post on this forum, I came here after stumbling across the research about Vitamin C and Lysine have positive effects on heart disease, which for me means it improves cardiovascular function. I have hyper-tension.
I was taking Zocor and after 6mos started having sever leg pain and weakness, thought maybe I had MS or some other disease. It seems that many statins also deplete CQ10 a very important coenzyme for muscle activity that has been linked to a increase in ALS like symptoms. My guess is the drug companies already know this and are hidding it from the DR's.
My DR was surprised that I had problems . He said a few of his patients had similar problems.
SO I started at 2000 mgm's of C and 1500 of Lysine a day and if I tolerate that dose I will try to titrate up the C to around 4000.
I seem to feel better too.
Doug

PS anyone taking statins may at any time have cq10 depletion leading to ALS like symptoms that can lead to permanent dissability. This has been well doccumented in Europe . :?:

Thank you for this report. If that is all the vitamin C and lysine you can tolerate, you might consider Lypo-C from LivonLabs.com

As far as the statins, since Mr. Bill Sardi was nice enough to plug my upcoming book (DRAFT cover at http://practicingmedicinewithoutalicense.com )
I hope I am not speaking out of school by revealing that Sardi is writing a book about statin drugs and the damage they are doing to heart patients.

First, there is of course the Merck patent 4,933,165 (1990). This is absolute proof the Merck knew about the CoQ10 depletion issue right from the beginning.

Second, there are the warnings in the Candian Versions of the Medical Journals. Here is a scan of a statin ad in the NEJM
.
http://naturesperfectstatin.com/canada.htm
These warnings are not required by the FDA in the United States. I have written letters to the FDA, and I know that Dr. Julian Whitaker and others have petitioned the FDA for statin label warnings about the CoQ10 issue.

We also put this page together to compare the statin drugs with vitamin C.

Thanks Owen for that plug about Sardi's book. I am obsessed with the cholesterol scam and the damage that statins have done so am looking forward to Sardi's next book.

Of course I am looking forward to your book too. I have learned so much from this forum.

ALL cardiovascular lowering and blood pressure drugs contribute to nutritional deficiencies that cause heart failure.
Statins are especially dangerous because they are CANCER FERTILIZER according to The People's Chemist, Shane Ellison.

Here are a few gems from Shane Ellison's Blog:

Dr. Jarvik - Lipitor Pusher - Fired AGAIN
1. Cholesterol-lowering drugs decrease CoQ10 levels within the heart. This essential nutrient serves as an energy producing molecule and is crucial to proper cardiovascular function. Without it, the heart fails. Congestive heart failure is the outcome. This was highlighted when Merck, makers of the first cholesterol-lowering drug, filed for a patent for its profit-pulling “Mevacor.”

2. Cholesterol-lowering drugs can also destroy memory. Cholesterol works to ensure the integrity of the “myelin sheath.” This coating within the brain is responsible for encouraging the passage of electrical messages. It is needed for memory and focus. As the cholesterol-lowering drugs deplete cholesterol the myelin sheath breaks down. Memory deteriorates.

3. Cholesterol-lowering drugs can increase the risk of cancer. Studies show they mimic a growth factor responsible for its proliferation. The growth factor is known as VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor). VEGF is “cancer fertilizer.” Thus, Cholesterol-lowering drug users are creating an environment within their body conducive to cancer growth.

According to USA Today, the U.S. Government is not sending out warnings either. They reported, “Statins have killed and injured more people than the government has acknowledged.” [3]

Owen, I emailed Bill Sardi to ask about his new book about statins and he said that he is not doing one. Could it be someone else? If so, who?

Actually, Bill Sardi just recently completed a book last year on Cancer so maybe this is the book you are talking about.

Bill Sardi's Book, HOW TO LOWER YOUR CHOLESTEROL PHOBIA AND HOW TO CLEANSE YOUR ARTERIES IN 30 DAYS can be found here:
http://www.naturalhealthlibrarian.com/e ... holesterol

People are searching for answers to their questions about cholesterol, heart, and blood vessel disease. Questions like these:

• What can I take in addition to a statin drug to reduce my cholesterol?

• Are there safe and effective alternatives to drugs that lower my cholesterol?

• Other than exercise, how do I raise my HDL cholesterol?

• What can I do to keep from having heart and blood vessel disease like my parents and grandparents did?

Here is a list of Statins that include:

Cerivastatin - ( Baycol®, Lipobay®) Withdrawn from market by

BAYER due to toxicity

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerivastatin

Fluvastatin - (Lescol®, Canef®)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluvastatin

Lovastatin - (Mevacor®, Advicor® (as a combination with

niacin), Altocor®, Altoprev®, Statosan® (Atos Pharma)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovastatin

Mevastatin - Mevastatin is not used in therapy of hyperlipidemias because

of multiple side effects but it is the only source for

production of another statin - pravastatin.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mevastatin

Pitavastatin - It has been available in Japan since 2003, and is being

marketed under licence in South Korea and in India.[2] It is

likely that pitavastatin will be approved for use in

hypercholesterolaemia(elevated levels of cholesterol in the

blood) and for the prevention of cardiovascular disease

outside South and Southeast Asia as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitavastatin

Pravastatin - (marketed as Pravachol or Selektine)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pravastatin

Rosuvastatin - (Crestor)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosuvastatin

Simvastatin - Zocor® Reference: Drug Discovery Today editorial, 2005.[7]

Simvastatin was initially marketed by Merck & Co under the

trade name Zocor, but is now also available generically in

most countries following the patent expiry. A combination of

Simvastatin along with Ezetimibe is currently sold under the

brand name Vytorin and is jointly marketed by Merck and

Schering-Plough.

Brand names: Zocor®, Zocor Heart Pro®, marketed by the

pharmaceutical company Merck & Co. and Denan (Germany),

Liponorm, Sinvacor, Sivastin (Italy), Lipovas (Japan), Lodales

(France), Zocord (Austria and Sweden), Zimstat, Simvahexal

(Australia), Lipex (Australia and New Zealand), Simvastatin-

Teva, Simvacor, Simvaxon, Simovil (Israel), Simvotin (India)

and other.

The primary US patent for Zocor expired on June 23, 2006;

Ranbaxy Laboratories (at the 80-mg strength) and Teva

Pharmaceutical Industries through its Ivax Pharmaceuticals

unit (at all other strengths) were given approval by the FDA

to manufacture and sell simvastatin as a generic drug with

180-day exclusivity. Dr. Reddy's Laboratories also has a

license from Merck & Co. to sell simvastatin as an authorized

generic drug.

Ezetimibe/simvastatin is a combination product to lower lipids

and marketed as Vytorin.

HI,
Thanks for all the info, I can say that I haven't felt this good in a long time.
I am very worried about the rest of the world who are being led like little lambs to take their statins and devolope all kinds of problems never realizing that its the meds.
I plan to check my blood lipids in July will post the results, I am now tolerating 5 gms of C and 5 grams of Lysine, spread over 5 doses a day. My BP is improving and I have to decrease my BP meds to prevent fatigue..
I also take 500 mgs of niacin twice a day to improve circulation and it also helps lipids to improve.
All the aches, sever tendon pains, loss of flexability are easing off.
I thought it was age.
